About “Graham Whitiker: They Call Him Traitor” by Rachel Bross::
Genre: Science Fiction; Adventure; Crime
Graham Whitiker was doing his duty as an American Marine. He survived an attack only to be betrayed and sent to prison by those he thought were on his side. After a miraculous second chance and seventy-three years later, he teams up with an unlikely ally, and sets out into a new world to find his betrayers, if they are still alive. Join him on his mission to take back the life they stole from him.

“Graham Whitiker” is a great book about a loyal soldier betrayed by the very ones for whom he dedicated his life and sanity. Such tales about the expendable nature of kind individuals on behalf of the truly traitorous government (or other organizations) are some of my favorites and this book is a perfect hard-hitting example.
But it takes it a step further than a story of loyalty and betrayal with its use of an intriguing new technology that allows inmates to be reborn in order to carry out multiple life sentences. After being imprisoned for seventy years, Whitiker is due to undergo his transformation back into an eighteen year old body so that he may continue his sentence.
But he has other plans in mind for his rebirth.
It becomes a unlawful fight for Whitiker’s personal freedom over his previous self-less devotion to all his nation’s citizens. Along with the other main character, a young woman he meets in prison, the storyline is fairly intricate and throws enough surprises to keep the reader drawn in. The story is unique in the ways that matter while maintaining a traditionally powerful premise. Definitely a well-written adventure I recommend reading.
Personal note: I grew up in Helena, AR which is just across the river from Clarksdale, MS where my mom worked. It’s also had problems with gangs for quite some time. It was cool to see references to some places and things I’m familiar with. Also, the dog part reminded me of that song Ol’ Red by Blake Shelton lol.
