About ‘Mara’s Choice’ by Leo Flynn::
Genre: Scifi; Space Opera; Antihero
Jump right back into Mara’s galactic adventures with the second book in the science fiction series The Mara Files, from emerging sci-fi author Leo Flynn.
After six years, Mara is back. She did it, escaped from prison. She’s free.
Why does she feel so… empty?
Reeling from the events of recent days, she blunders around her brain in a fog, with only three objectives in mind.
Survive. Don’t get captured. Stay out of trouble.
But with bounty hunters at every shady haunt, Kottura hot on her heels, and Ishali harping on about righteous quests and helping the galaxy…
It’s going to be a lot harder than she anticipated.
The second in an explosive, galaxy-spanning series of short stories, this book jumps straight back into the action. Mara might have escaped the highest security prison in the galaxy, but it’s not over yet. The trouble’s just getting started.

I have also reviewed these other titles by Leo Flynn:
Mara’s Awakening (Mara’s Files book 1)
After “Mara’s Awakening,” I was more than ready to jump back in with Mara and Ishali as this odd couple continued their flight from prison. The first book was mostly focused on the setup of the universe (as most first books are) and the action of their escape. We did get enough look in the characters’ stories to be interested in them, but book 2 focused even more on their experiences and emotions.
Don’t get me wrong, there is still plenty of action!
Force-to-be-reckoned-with and cyborg Mara, alongside the sweet, passive-minded Ishali are a personality duo I love. While Mara fights with her inner (and outer) demons, trying to teach her companion the harsh reality of their new lives, Ishali attempts to find a middle ground between his own morals and what he must do to survive.
Once again, as with book 1, I wish there was more detail. It’s a great setup and great characters that I’d love to know more of. And also once again, this is less a judgement than it is a personal preference toward writing style.
It was a great, quick read. I love the setting, the characters, and plot though thus far, I believe my favorite part is Mara and her mysterious past. I say mysterious despite several core points of that past having been revealed because even with those details, Mara and her origins still feel shrouded in a way that is completely enticing. I’ll definitely be looking forward to the release of book 3!
