About ‘Mark of a Demon’ by Despoina Kemeridou::
Genre: Short Story; Paranormal Romance
When Heather was born, everyone thought she would die due to her weak heart. Upon her mother’s callings, a demon showed up and saved her life by sharing his heart with hers. There was only one condition; she would live until the demon’s powers ran out. Not knowing anything about the mark she had on her chest from the day she remembers herself, she falls in love with the demon, marking the start of a forbidden love…
What happens when she finds out the secrets her aunt and the demon have been keeping deeply hidden from her?

We all know the adage on making deals with demons (or the devil or any other supernatural creature for that matter), but ‘Mark of a Demon’ is a whole new twist on it. Desperate for her daughter to have a life, regardless of how short lived, Heather’s mother gives herself in exchange for what years this dark spirit can provide. However as Heather grows into a young woman and meets said demon and begins falling for him, things take some unprecedented turns.
I adore this story! Those who know me know I love demons and this was such an interestingly endearing paranormal romance. In my personal life, demons hold a lot of significance as I have always believed to have a guardian demon rather than a guardian angel, suffice it to say. So this story connected with me on a spiritual level.
Although I’ve read work by Despoina Kemeridou before and enjoyed it, this is my favorite as of now. Falling in love with ‘the bad guy’ sounds cliche, but I assure this story is not. The tale is much deeper than simply demons being inherently bad or overall just out to wreak havoc at their own benefit. Kudos for creating this sweet love story with a fresh twist!
